LOS ANGELES - Good news for fans of Star Wars. Walt Disney has confirmed that it will be working on a new Star Wars movie when it acquired from Lucasfilm to deal USD4.05 billion in cash and stock.
Disney says Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted to be released in 2015.
Walt Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said the company also plans to release Episode 8 and 9.
"Our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars movie every two to three years," he said, quoted by Digitalspy, Wednesday (10/31/2012).
Director of the film Star Wars, George Lucas, says he hopes the movie Star Wars could be cultivated again by a new generation of filmmakers.
"Over the last 35 years, I was one of the greatest happiness is to see Star Wars through one generation to another. Now time for me to see Star Wars on a generation of filmmakers," said George.
"I always believe that Star Wars can live outside and I think it's important to set the transition in my life. I'm sure that with Lucasfilm under kepimimpinan Kathleen Kennedy and have a new home in the organization Disney, Star Wars would have to live and thrive for generations to come, "he continued.
Star Wars television series tentatively titled Star Wars: Underworld is also being worked out. It said the film's story will focus on the criminals and gangs in the sci-fi nature
